Mr. MacDonald has over 35 years of both public and private sector experience, ranging from international roles within the Parliament of Canada to serving on the boards of numerous publicly listed resource companies. From 1988 to 1997, he was the Member of Parliament for Halifax, Nova Scotia, during which time he was appointed by the Prime Minister of Canada as Parliamentary Secretary of International Trade. From 1997-2002, Mr. MacDonald was President and CEO of the Council of Forest Industries, a large lumber manufacturing, grading and marketing group, where he developed new markets in China, Korea, India and Japan. In recent years Mr. MacDonald has served as President of NRStor Remote Communities and Mines, a Canadian company focused on partnering with off-grid Indigenous communities and mines to develop renewable energy and energy storage projects.
Mr. Spinu has over 16 years’ experience in senior accounting and finance positions across diverse industries, including the retail and distribution sectors. Mr. Spinu joined Zinc8 in May 2018 as Treasurer, bringing a strong background in financial accounting, analysis and reporting, as well as financial analytics and controls. Mr. Spinu has also managed full-cycle accounting procedures, controls, and reporting cycles and increased accountability across departments within Zinc8. Mr. Spinu holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University.
Dr. Fan is a Chemical Engineer with over 15 years’ experience in electrochemical system research and development and with extensive knowledge of electrochemical characterization and process engineering. As a process engineer, Dr. Fan was responsible for zinc regenerator development in particular and, more generally, for the characterization and development of components critical to the advancement of zinc-air energy storage technology. He also fulfills an invaluable role in bridging the knowledge gap between business requirements and technology capabilities. Following receipt of a B.A.Sc. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2003, Dr. Fan completed a M.Eng degree specializing in Engineering Management, and in 2012, completed a Ph.D. from UBC, focusing on the performance characterization of electrochemical systems. Dr. Fan is also a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in B.C.
Mr. Edley is an Electrical Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in uninterruptible power system development and test. His background includes VRLA battery and flywheel based energy storage systems and line interactive inverter and sharing control systems delivering up to 3.6MW with Active Power. He also developed inverters at Alpha Technologies and worked with the Canadian Standards Association. He also has extensive experience with UL, CE, CSA and VDE regulatory compliance projects for various unique products. His lab experience includes designing a multi-megawatt test facility and directing operations for all regulatory, performance and failure testing of UPS products. He is a member of the Standard Technical Panel for CAN/UL 1973, UL1989, CAN/UL 9540, UL 9540A and a Task Force member for Section 64 of the Canadian Electrical Code. He holds a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria, BC.
Mr. Sloan is a Mechanical Engineer with over 10 years of experience in R&D, product development and product manufacturing. His R&D and product development experience has been with hydrogen and metal air fuel cell technologies, for which he co-authored several patents. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in BC and holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria, a M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Systems from Chalmers University of Technology, and an MBA from the Beedie School of Business.
Mark Baggio has worked globally building new markets for Canadian companies in the renewable energy, energy storage and energy minerals sectors. He has led negotiations for Canadian companies in Japan, Korea, China and throughout Europe in both the vanadium flow battery and lithium-ion battery sectors. Mark worked for 5 years with NRStor Remote Communities & Mines, an energy storage project developer dedicated to partnering with remote off-grid Indigenous communities and mines to reduce GHG’s and dependence on diesel fuel. He has held management and Board positions in lithium, graphite, vanadium, rare earth and technology metals companies. Mr. Baggio has led successful trade, political & capital raising missions throughout Asia, Europe & North America on behalf of Canadian companies.
Mr. McLeod is an Electrical Engineer with over 40 years' experience in leading the development of successful commercial products. His product and project experience encompasses telecommunication systems, data processing systems and commercial building operations, among others. His career spans a diverse range of technologies including microwave propagation studies at British Telecom Research Labs (BTRL), software controlled switching systems at BTRL and Mitel, and USB protocol development at Icron Technologies. He is a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.). He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of St. Andrews and an M.Sc. in Telecommunication Systems from the University of Essex.
Dr. Graham Duck is a Mechanical Engineer with over 20 years experience in R&D, product development, program management and operations. Graham has leadership experience in telecommunications, process automation and consumer product industries in both growth stage and multi-national sized organizations. He is a registered Professional Engineer in BC and holds a B. Eng from McGill, a PhD from the University of Toronto and an MBA from UBC’s Sauder School of Business.
Mr. Hodgson is Chairman of Greenbrook Capital Partners Inc., a strategic advisory firm focused on investing in promising early-stage companies primarily involved in clean energy and technology. He has held senior management positions with, and served on the boards of, several public companies listed in Canada, the US, and the UK. In the financial sector, Mr. Hodgson has held senior positions including President and CEO of Central Guaranty Trust, Executive Vice-President of The Canada Permanent Mortgage Corporation and Vice-President of Policy and Planning at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
Mr. Hodge has an extensive background in business that includes over 25 years of experience in the management and financing of publicly-traded companies. He has been a director of mineral exploration companies since 1996, and currently also serves on the board of Commerce Resources Corp. Mr. Hodge's strengths lie in leadership and imaginative direction. His success has been founded on a belief in team building, consultation and strong leadership, as well as a willingness to incorporate expert advice into a viable working enterprise.
Mr. Deol has over 35 years of experience in the financial markets. Mr. Deol currently serves on both private and public company boards as a director or in a management capacity. His past and present experiences include providing management and consulting services to companies, project analysis, investor relations, technical market analysis, and the financing of international projects.
Mr. Sean Charland is a seasoned communications professional with experience in raising capital and marketing resource exploration companies. His network of contacts within the financial community extends across North America and Europe. Mr. Charland also serves as a Director of Maple Gold Mines Ltd., Arctic Star Exploration Corp., Zimtu Capital Corp, Eyecarrot Innovations Corp. and Voltaic Minerals Corp. He has been active in the venture capital markets for 15+ years.
